What is Paws for Purpose?
Paws for Purpose is a specialised Therapy Dog training programme delivered through the International Dog Training School on the Gold Coast.
The course focuses on developing the skills, confidence and temperament required for dogs and their handlers to work together in a variety of community settings. From aged care facilities and schools to workplaces and community events, Therapy Dogs have the unique ability to bring comfort, companionship and emotional support wherever they go.

- Comfortable around people of all ages
- Able to remain relaxed in different environments
- Responsive to their handler
Many Therapy Dogs come from a variety of breeds and backgrounds. What matters most is a stable temperament and a genuine enjoyment of human interaction.
What Will You Learn?
Throughout the course, handlers and dogs will work together to develop:
- Advanced obedience and handling skills
- Confidence in public environments
- Appropriate greeting behaviours
- Calm interactions with strangers
- Focus and reliability around distractions
- The foundations required for Therapy Dog visits
Our experienced trainers provide guidance and support every step of the way, helping each team reach their full potential.
Why Become a Therapy Dog Team?
Few experiences are as rewarding as seeing the positive impact your dog can have on someone else’s day.
A simple visit from a Therapy Dog can:
- Reduce feelings of loneliness
- Encourage social interaction
- Provide emotional comfort
- Create moments of joy and connection
- Help people feel calmer and more relaxed
For many handlers, Therapy Dog work becomes a meaningful way to give back to the community while strengthening the bond they share with their dog.
