Meet Allison and Sami: A Dynamic Duo Transforming Lives at Canine Command Gold Coast

At Canine Command Gold Coast, Allison is an invaluable team member who dedicates her time and expertise to pet sitting and reactive dog training. With her unique approach and the assistance of her calm, well-trained companion Sami, a 6-year-old Portuguese Water Dog, she helps transform the lives of countless dogs and their owners. Today, we’d like to share Allison and Sami’s heartwarming story and their remarkable contributions to the community.

Allison and Sami: A Match Made for Success

Sami, a 6-year-old Portuguese Water Dog, is an integral part of Allison’s work at Canine Command Gold Coast. As a breed, Portuguese Water Dogs are energetic, independent, and were historically used to perform various tasks on fishing boats in Portugal. From delivering messages between boats to retrieving dropped items and rounding up fish, these dogs have always had a strong work ethic.

Growing up, Sami was no exception to her breed’s reputation. She was an active and intelligent puppy, requiring a “job” to keep her out of mischief. Her journey began with obedience and rally-O training, followed by agility competitions that she adored. Sami even tried her paw at scentwork, but her enthusiasm led her to be a little too rough with the scent-containing boxes.

From Reactive Dogs to Therapy and Beyond

As Sami matured and calmed down, she began working with sensitive and reactive dogs, helping them feel more comfortable and confident around other dogs. Her calming presence and gentle demeanor proved invaluable in Allison’s training sessions, easing the fears of countless canine clients.

Sami’s talents don’t stop there. She is also a qualified Delta therapy dog, bringing joy and comfort to patients at a mental health facility as part of their sensory therapy program. Her presence encourages participants to share stories about their own dogs, fostering connections and providing emotional support.

Additionally, Sami is in training to join the Brisbane Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) K9 team. This role requires her to develop specialised skills, such as climbing ladders, navigating tight spaces, and obeying complex commands at a distance. With her natural abilities and determination, Sami is well on her way to becoming an exceptional search and rescue dog.

The Perfect Addition to Pet Sitting

When it comes to Pet Sitting, Sami is the perfect companion for her doggie guests. She loves playing, walking, and socializing with the visiting pups. Her natural ability to be a role model shines through, especially with puppies and young dogs, as they learn valuable manners and social skills simply by spending time with her.

Sami may not have any fish to round up, but her busy life is a testament to the incredible bond between her and Allison. As a team, they continue to make a significant impact on the lives of dogs and their owners at Canine Command Gold Coast. Through pet sitting, reactive dog training, therapy work, and search and rescue training, Sami and Allison showcase the power of love, dedication, and teamwork in the world of dog training and care.
